I am trying to find a price chart of the stock of Enron. A regular line-and-bar chart with daily, weekly or even monthly bars covering approx. time frame of 1985 until bankruptcy. Do you have such an “animal” or know how to get one.
Will be giving a graduate level lecture series on price behavior and would very much like to have such a chart. Thanks for any reply.
Great, great historical site. Kudos.
Hi Frank,
Here you go: http://caraellison.wordpress.com/2009/09/06/enron-historical-data/enron-historical-data/
It’s not a line and bar chart, but it’s the stock price of stock every day from 1985 until the company was delisted from the NYSE.
Hope this helps.
Whoops, I’m sorry – that only goes back to 1998. I thought for sure I had the data back to 1985. Let me look through my files and if I have it, I’ll post it.
What an astonishing website! Many years I saw the movie ‘The Smartest Guys in The Room’ and became hooked on the Enron story. I developed an interest in the darker sides of high finance and have now ready several books on banking and business fraud. The wealth of fascinating material on this site is remarkable. What is truly remarkable is that interest in Enron still maintains. Is it the Titanic story of finance?
Hi James, thanks for your comment. As you’ll see, I don’t put any faith at all in “Smartest Guys In the Room” (you can read my deconstruction here: http://caraellison.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/everything-wrong-with-the-smartest-guys-in-the-room-expanded-edition/) but I’m always happy when people are eager to learn more about Enron.
Wow, I can’t believe the amount of material you have accumulated here. Anyway, I was just wondering what ever happened to Ken Rice. I know he served some jail time – but where is he now and what is he doing?
I saw your Banksy article on the EllisonBlog and found this blog. You seem to be a street artist or at least you respect them. How can you defend Enron??
Hi Ham,
Thanks for your comment. Your comment is a bit of a non sequitur, but I think you’re asking how, if I love street art, I can also love Enron. The only way to answer that is to guess at your assumptions about both subjects. I love street art because it is democratic and wild and beautiful. I love it because it speaks to something good and new inside me. I love it because I love it.
I love Enron because I love capitalism and despise the state’s power over innocent people. There’s actually some confluence here. The stereotype of the rebellion who rejects overwhelming state power? I’m totally down with that. I think Enron executives were the victims of a government that is out of control. So I don’t see any contradiction between loving Enron and loving street art.
I have been thinking about writing a post explaining my position on the First Amendment vs. Property Rights (property rights win every time) which hopefully will explain how I can be a capitalist-loving, money-respecting good girl who adores the fuck-youism of street art and the rights of people to express even their stupid, ugly, ridiculous opinions in the form of graffiti.
And besides, what do you think about the Christ The Redeemer as Osama? As I said in the post, I’m calling it a hoax.
