I didn’t bother go to the second day of CPAC. It sounded like I didn’t miss much. However, that evening I met up with a group of friends for drinks at Murphy’s around the corner from the CPAC hotel. We then walked to a bar called Madam’s Organ and I asked the cute bartender to make me something sweet. He made me something pink, which I guess is the same thing. I then ducked out early.
Today I looked at the CPAC schedule again and there wasn’t anyone I really had to see. But I thought I should duck in just to check it out one last time. I spent $195 for a three day pass and probably spent a grand total of 15 minutes at the hotel. I either need to make more of an effort next year or just not bother. Anyway, I showed up and saw a mob and knew instinctively it was Sarah Palin. I then turned into the paparazzi and pushed, shoved, and elbowed my way to her.
She is gorgeous. Supermodel beautiful with high cheekbones, full lips and a cloud of brunette hair. Teensy tiny, about five feet four and skinny as a rail. She had Secret Service all over her, and at one point the mob had pushed her and the agents into a corner and she looked so tiny and fragile, just being at the center of this huge mass. As she walked, I managed to stay behind her for a while, then ducked out.
But wow. She made the entire experience worth it.
After I left, I took some pictures of the Occupy douchebags who had been hanging out for all three days.
They are gathered at the Metro in front of the hotel, and as I walked to the Metro, I had my ear buds in. As soon as I crossed the street, in the left side of my peripheral vision, I saw something come out, like it was going to strike me. At the exact second I flinched back and realized it was a clothes hanger (was he ranting about abortion?), my parasympathetic system jumped into action and almost like an instinct, I yelled at him, “Get a job!”
I felt bad about it. The police standing around just smirked at me. I walked on to the Metro but I felt really bad for yelling at the douchebag like that. I don’t think he was meaning to hit me; he was just excited and not watching at what he was doing.
Altogether, seeing Sarah Palin was the high point. Drinking with my friends (and making new friends) was a lot of fun and I had a great time. And the fact that CPAC is over is the best part.
