I spoke to one of Collins’ former bosses at Enron today and this is what he had to say about Collins:
We all knew he was nutty… every day was some new crazy thing with him. The highest maintenance employee ever. Also, any employee who asks to be given $18 million after he has already quit is probably not going to do well on the ‘Good Employee’ scale. So, I would have to say no, he was not a good employee.
I love that statement: the highest maintenance employee ever. That cracks me up.

another gem Cara.
I liked that one too. : )
Funny, the ETF had this and other nutty things before the indictment.
Cara you have to be stopped. You keep playing the evidence card.
You have to stop using evidence from trial documents. This stuff is just too hard to believe. How can I keep hating Enron people with you putting stuff down like this. STOP!!
So, the DOJ/ETF/Kroger etc. decided the following ideas. Otherwise, they would not have made the case using his interviews on the civil case and would not have used him on the stand.
Think about the following:
Collins in some civil interviews said he knew the BOS was not real and he left EBS because he knew Microsoft would find out EBS did not have an operating system.
Hirko said in the question and answer part of the EBS presentation it was not a traditional operating system and no one thought EBS was trying to take on Microsoft or SUN/Unix. That is part of the trial transcript which is a government exhibit in trial. Crazy.
In the crazy Lipstick email (government evidence exhibit in trial, ONE SENTANCE OUT OF CONTENXT was quoted in books and articles as proof the EBS people knew things were not done). Earlier, he says he wished Microsoft had never heard the word BOS and that when they found out Sun was in the BOS deal it was not going to be good. Then he covers the BOS with lipstick. POOR JOKE INTENDED.
The BOS was announced as a new initiative at the AC 2000. Per the transcripts of the BOS section.
Collins said he left EBS because he knew the BOS was a lie, based on the Shelby II video being played which it was not. See transcripts.
So it is nutty for Collins to say all this in trial, then also admit to leaving the company and leaving all those stock options on the table (see crazy letter in your blog above).
Why would you sell Enron because you think the stock will go down when the public hears the BOS idea at the AC 2000?
The Government theory was they thought it was a “pump up and dump” not a sell now because the BOS idea was pump down. How does it make sense to have him say this on the stand? Why does this make Collins credible?
Collins admitted to insider trading on the stand. See transcript.
Then sit there as a witness who is for the Government and tell the jury all the defendants are bad because the BOS was not real based on his earlier public statement for the civil case. Collins had nothing to do with the definition of the BOS see the trial transcripts. He does not even understand the definition and somehow he and others become the experts on it? It was still being defined because it was an invention, it was a new thing it was just being announced. It was explained as a collaboration/development effort with SUN. It was not finished and no one told the public it was finished. See transcript.
Then it is shown during trial the Shelby II video was not played and the purpose of it was to pump up the Enron stock ? but Collins thought it would go down so he sold his Enron Stock Options?
So the government used Collins to show the defendants were bad people and should go to prison. Fact he was a government witness and refused to talk to the defendants.
But he now was a sworn insider trader and now was a witness against insider traders who happened to have believed the exact oposite of him?
And he is a credible witness?
He caused the whole EBS case according to Kroger who put it in writing in a book? People wonder how the jury could have been hung on some counts even for Yeager who was found not guilty on all the major counts? This is so nutty it is hard to believe anyone is this nutty, but a juror can certainly not believe the DOJ is this nutty.
Not only does this not add up, Kroger/ETF/Ben Campbell and the FBI did not see any inconsistancy here?
Who is nuttier? Kroger, DOJ or Collins? All of the above? 1+1+1= 50 nutty?
Cara you could not make this stuff up if you tried.
I know, I’m such a bitch for playing the “evidence card.”
But wow, this is a great comment.
Collins is just crazy. He admitted on the stand that he lied to Sun and Microsoft. He admitted he lied about insider trading. So why is his word suddenly golden?
Bill Collins is a nut case.
