For anyone who doubts that the prosecution is less than squeaky clean in the Enron case, please direct your browsers here. This case isn’t about Enron, or corporate crime at all. It’s about a 92 year old woman who was shot to death in a botched police raid.
Police officer Arthur Tesler, who was in the back yard during the raid, testified that an officer lied to a judge to get a warrant, then planted drugs in the woman’s basement to back up his story. His attorney alleges that police “routinely” planted drugs and lied to obtain search warrants.
Let me be clear: I am very much pro-law enforcement. I wrote a novel extolling the virtues and difficulties of being a good FBI agent. My creds in this regard are lily-white. But the FBI I so loved enough to write about is not the same breed of law enforcement that plants drugs, pressures and threatens witnesses, and silences others with their mysterious “un-indicted co-conspirators” lists.
It is because I love law enforcement that I am so sickened by their behavior when they do something reprehensible like this. Whether its Jeff Skilling or a 92-year old woman awakened in the middle of the night by a no-knock raid, we need to give each defendant a fighting chance to defend him or herself.
This is terrible. This is worse than terrible. In case you haven’t noticed, the country is gone and, as a whole, the people aren’t going to do anything about it.
It is terrible, I agree. I think its awful for that poor 92 year old woman and I think its awful for Jeff Skilling. I think its awful for any innocent person who is caught in some bureaucrat’s net.
So you are very much pro law enforcement, wow, isn’t that something…’enforcement’… seems like some people really enjoy enforcing. Not employing some peaceful means like assessment, common sense, reasoning, diplomacy etc., but force, strength or power exerted.
‘No knock’ raids, tasering, multiple cops kicking the stuffing out of those who end up being completely innocent of any crime should be seen as a sign that the situation re: law ‘enforcement’ has deteriorated to such a degree that that whole aspect of society needs major revamping. Even if the person turns out to be guilty they should not be treated in such a way.
But that won’t happen will it?…because it is not simply a trend and it has the appearance of suiting a certain agenda. Anyone with any intuition can see/feel it; cops always dressed in black these days, wearing flak jackets, carrying clubs, guns, tasers, mace, manacles etc. Irrespective of who you are, if you go looking for trouble you’ll probably find it; someone who ventures out with all these weapons may very well need them but I fear there are too many just itching to use them. If it looks, sounds, walks like it, call it what it is…
Everyone is now guilty until proven innocent, problem is some don’t live long enough to get the opportunity. Eventually people will realize the game that is afoot and they will not wait to be granted the right to their defense by some supposedly quasi benevolent system; they will seize the right, because it is theirs from the moment of birth…and those who have chosen to be the enforcers should be mindful of who they represent.

Pro law ENFORCEMENT indeed, sorry but I would prefer peace keepers (the original M.O of the police force a LONG time ago) who are their to protect the people and society as opposed to corporate and govenment interests.
Sam hit the nail square on the head, if any average (american) person was to RESEARCH THE FACTS that he has stated then they would either come to the same conclusion or simply not have the brain power to actually discern what a fascist police state is. The fact the average american can wax lyrical in an almost encyclopedic fashion about their favorite sport, recalling crazy amount of stats and info is testament to the fact they are far from stupid. I don’t wish to be rude but the ‘nutballs’ you refer to are the very ones doing something about exposing the terrible acts (and more) that you have just written about.
I live in the UK and we can have an objective view as to what is going on in the US and these people are pretty much on
the money. Ask yourself how free you actually are. Could you go running naked in a field near your house if you just felt like it? Or would you be arrested for public indecency?
It may be an extreme example but, in general, as society becomes more ‘civilised’ we lose more of our natural God-given rights. For example, in the UK I recently got asked to stop taking photographs of some flowers (for my girlfriend) while I was in a train station. They have actually passed a law banning taking photographs in many public places.
Now, I can appreciate that there is a sense of paranoia after the Tube bombings and September the 11th but for those old enough in the UK to recall the IRA bombing campaigns there was never anything like that put into place (as far as I am aware) and the IRA posed a far more significant threat to public safety than so-called ‘Islamic’ terrorism. A rational person would naturally ask ‘why now and not then?’.
My own suspicion is that there is an agenda unfolding and that there are some very disturbed people involved with it. It appears that the smokescreen for the agenda involves creating a battle of ‘good’ and ‘evil’ between Islam and Christianity, even George Bush Jnr has said as much in several speeches.
I try to remain as objective as possible on these matters as I can see that some so-called ‘conspiracy theorists’ (which I wish people would stop using as with a negative connotation because it is appropriate because they are theorising about potential conspiracies) lose their objectivity in pursuit of changing the world they percieve to be at fault.
On the other hand, I see so-called ‘everday’ people who are opposed to such theories dismiss any potential conspiracy out of hand. Think about the Enron scandal (and the numerous others). It would be insane to believe that these were just a few bad apples, yet people do. Big business and government is rife with it, as those with any direct experience will tell you.
So in short, please have a little more respect for these ‘nutballs’ who are trying hard, like you, to change the world for the better. The sooner we realise that we are wanting the same thing, the faster we can work together to acheive it.

Cara Ellison has done plenty of reality checks. Writing a book is a long, arduous process. I spoke to all sorts of people (I won’t give up my sources even in the face of prison so I won’t reveal who I spoke to here) and I came away with the feeling that every single one of them did what they thought was right at Waco. I wrote a book based on Waco (go to amazon, search “cara ellison, god’s country”).
If Koresh had given up, WHEN HE PROMISED TO, HRT would not have been forced to do more. We as citizens may fear authorities but we must comply with them when they knock on our doors; it is the only way to achieve legitimacy. It is also, incidentally, the only way to a happy ending.

For the record, I didn’t claim to be an expert on anything and your comments seemingly betray an inability to have understood what I wrote in my comment, which for an author is incredible.
One thing I found puzzling was your comment about how we ‘must comply with them’ to ‘acheive legitimacy’. I would like to know how you arrived at that conclusion because if my interpretation of your comment is correct then I believe you are saying that even if one believes they have done nothing wrong and is being physically threatened by a group of people who just so happen to work for the government then one must submit to those people regardless of how one feels or whether they believe they are right or not.
This behaviour does not acheive legitimacy for anyone because one would be betraying one’s own principles and beliefs in favour of someone else’s, in this case the government.
I mean, there is co-operation with the Police or whoever for the sake of being co-operative and helping and then there is refusing to condone a system that you don’t believe in. If one doesn’t consider the police or government to be legitimate then one would be a hypocrite to then comply with that same system which they opposed.
Again, this is just an observation, nothing more.
The very fact that you attacked me speaks volumes about you and I would much prefer an adult debate on this rather than petty name calling as I am sure that you are mature enough to be able to have a disagreement without resorting to such behaviour.

Dear God, if you only knew to what extent our government and law enforcement would go to punish a child, you would be sick to your stomach. Our country IS screwed. We the People put in office two Oil Men and wonder why the price of gas has gone sky-high. We wonder why clearly guilty criminals go scott-free, while other innocent people are punished so that it APPEARS that the “government” is doing their job. They’ve been fooling us for years. Corruption is the name of the game, the biggest crooks, thieves, druggies and alcoholics, and murderers are the men who we expect to serve and protect us. Our Men in Blue planted three marijuana plants in our back yard (my husband thinks a bird dropped the seeds), I figured out there’s law enforcement in our town set up to catch the Methamphetamine manufacturers, and now they work to discredit me. Good luck, America. The bad guys aren’t who you suspect they are. I highly doubt that 92 year old woman was a drug user, only made to look that way after they screwed up and attempted to cover THEIR CRIME of shooting and killing her. God bless the poor lady.
