Man Skills

Esquire has a list of 75 Things Men Should Master, which is excellent. I think I agree with all of them. And I’m inspired to write 75 Things Women Should Master, but I’m too busy actually doing them at the moment.

  • You may very well be working on the 150 list for women. A woman has to work twice as hard to be considered half as good as a man. Luckily this is very easy. :) My grandmother used to say this.

I was pleased that Mr. Aloha performs well in 72 out of the 75. The bow tie thing, dress size, and shooting basketball etc. didn’t quite make it.

  • I agree with a lot of them, being manly things. Some, however, seemed like things the guys wife added as a wishlist. No guy needs to know how to tie a bowtie – normal tie, yes.
Speak a foreign language? A good skill to have, no doubt – but there is nothing manly about speaking French.
The cooking one should’ve been a “should be able to cook any meal using a grill or open flame.”

“Cast a fishing rod without shrieking or sighing?” You can’t both be a guy and be someone who shrieks as he casts (aside from the one who, only too late, realizes that he has hooked himself in the crotch).

Describe a glass of wine in a sentence? Negative.

    But overall, pretty decent list.

  • Yeah, it was fun to read. :)

Ms. A – that was my thought too!
